Join The Gist of Freedom's guest host Gary Jenkins and Preston Washington for a lively discussion about Cherokee genealogy.
Preston is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and the Missouri State Genealogical Association. He is the president of the Midwest Afro-American Genealogy Interest Coalition (M.A.G.I.C.).
Preston’s research speciality centers around the freedmen of the five civilized tribes (Cherokee, Choctaw, Muscogee-Creek, Chickasaw, and Seminole nations). Freedmen were ex-slaves held in bondage by the Five Civilized Tribes.
Preston is a direct descendant of Cherokee full blood Nancy Ward. Nancy was the last woman to hold the title Beloved Woman.
